   TECHNOLOGY WATCH SEMINAR, february 19th, 2007    

An ELCIM cluster workshop on Technology Watch was held on Tuesday February 19th at Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Verdun-Beirut.

Its objective was to present new technological trends to the Chief Executive Officers and software developers of Lebanese software companies through regular lecture series.

This seminar was the first in the series which is planned to be offered twice a year and on regular basis. In this seminar, three important components perceived as disruptive in the next decade due to their importance and expected impact were discussed.

The first was RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), and was be presented by Professor Gerrit Tamm who explained its components, benefits, challenges, and beneficiary usages. The second component was Graphics Processing presented by Professor Walid Kairouz explaining GPUs and high performance computing. Finally, Professor Imad Hajj presented Security “Emphasis on Mobile Security”, whereby the focus was on protecting data and encryption.

Twenty five participants from 10 companies and institutions took part in this seminar, in which they all showed interest in the subject matter and had valuable contributions in the discussions held. The next Workshop is planned to be held on Monday March 17th on Project Management highlighting key issues for better performance..
